The taking off of the drain pipe to the float chamber gets over the starting difficulties for short periods of stops, but does not sure it after the car has stood for half an hour. The only cure, so far, for this condition has been the removal of the intake pipe to the air silencer.

The average speeds for the 25/30 h.p. is now working out at 38 m.p.h. It was only 20 m.p.h. at first, traffic conditions entering and leaving pull it down. It is up to 50 m.p.h. outside.

With regard to the oil consumption on the Bentley, you are aware that we have got cylinder bores with maximum allowance without being called oversize. The standard pistons are therefore on the slack side. As Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} is having this car tomorrow (Sunday), we will run over to Slough on Monday. It is not valve guides, correct rockers and shaft have been fitted.

PETROL TANK FILLER.

I've received a note from J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} Bowering with regard to my report, unfortunately, it got mixed up with the 25 h.p. instead of the Bentley. Both are giving trouble. The outside filler on the Bentley is not satisfactory, due to the following:-

(1) The pressure of delivery from the petrol pump causes the petrol to hit the opposite side of the filler pipe and is sprayed back through the air vent holes and runs down the wing.
(2) A baffle should be fitted inside to prevent this.
(3) The fastening of the cap is not positive.

25/30 H.P.

The fault lies in the body work, the cubby hole is not large enough to get the nozzle of the filler pipe in sufficiently. We are using the pump at Lillie Hall which has a regulator tap on the nozzle similar to, many on the road, with a fairly long neck. We cannot get it into the tank filler at all and have to aim the petrol into the filler.

With regard to the blocking up the holes in the connecting rods, we shall have to go to the Bentley depot at Cricklewood to do this. We will find out which will be the most convenient.
