I understand with reference to the axle pivot broken in bumping test, that this failed at the reduction we made outside the larger ball bearing. I understand that you have looked into this matter, and added a little metal to the thickness and made the radius considerably larger at this point.

All parts, in which there is much danger in the case of breakage, should be smoothly machined, and in special cases polished.

Perhaps this stub axle is one of these special cases where the outside should be polished where the stresses are the maximum.

The inside bore is of less importance as the stresses here are so much less.
