DE/AFW.1/KW.30.1.35. Front Brake Drum Water Excluding Tests. When water gets into the brake drums, apart from the noticeable loss of braking especially at low speeds, application of the brakes will cause a low speed judder in the front axle. If only a small amount of water has got in, the judder will only occur once or twice on application of the brakes, whereas when a considerable quantity has entered, the juddering may continue for a considerable number of applications. If customers experience this latter condition, complaints are bound to be made. Water may enter the drums through driving along a rough, wet road, or through driving through water splashes; though undoubtedly the severest condition, and one to which the car is subjected frequently, is washing with a hose. One brake manufacturer even states that no excluder can be devised to withstand a hose. We have made two types of experiments on different excluders, namely, comparative quantitative tests and visual tests. Further, we have tried the most successful excluder in these tests on the road through water splashes. [Diagram Text] FROM OUTSIDE 90° 45° 0° DISCHARGE PIPE 1/4" DIA: EXTERNAL. | ||
