with reference to your letter of the 17th inst., re autovac suction choked up with carbon, the holes in the nipple of the induction pipe were practically choked up with carbon, where the autovac suction pipe joins on to the induction pipe. Also, the filter in the autovac was very dirty from the same cause, i.e. soft oily carbon deposit.

Re oil consumption being reasonable on 93 NK, as you remark. I cannot follow you that we should get better results re connecting rods. I reported that at no time had the engine been short of oil, and your letter makes one believe that you do not think that this was the case.

With reference to oil leaks from gearbox on 9 G.III, we do not say that the main oil leak comes from the crankcase. We divided this up in our report - "oil leak from gearbox" and "oil leak from engine". Of the two, we would not like to say which is the worst at the present moment, but we are investigating both these leaks. We are holding the car up in the garage to-day, for a general overhaul, and investigation of the above. We will report as soon as we have got sufficient data.

G.W.Hancock.
