The troubles we have yet to overcome on the Condor engine are as follows:-

(a) EPICYCLIC GEAR

The troubles we had with the epicyclic gear on the first engine was roller bearings wearing badly and the springs in the spring drive breaking. When we dismantled the spring drive the last time all of the springs on the driving side were broken. Since we have given the roller bearings more oil they have certainly lasted longer. We should not like to say that the trouble has been definitely overcome. We think from the experience we have gained on the Eagle gear we ought to try the roller bearings fitted with cages. We suggest this should also apply to the .66 gear. The .66 gear is not yet completed but is well on the way.
We are building this second engine up with a .55 gear with the spring because we have one of these ready. We expect to change it for a .66 after a short while. The latest design .55 gear is in progress.
