W/S C. EPC. BY12/H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 8.1.26. AMMETER FOR MR.C.A.HYDE. EPC. has handed me the correspondence which has taken place between the Experimental Dept. and Sales. From the correspondence in question he has made clear the following points:- 1. The finish of the Elliott is not as good as the Weston. 2. The Weston Instruments have given wonderful service, considering the extreme delicacy of the parts. 3. We have not had sufficient experience with Messrs Elliott's to enable us to see whether they will give the same adequate and reliable service that we have enjoyed with the Weston. So far as our particular customer is concerned, it is clear that if he prefers to have the British made instrument we do not see any great objection to this when the customer asks for it. The fact that the appearance is not quite so good is one that the customer himself would have to put up with, and secondly, we cannot of course guarantee the instrument in the way that we can a Weston, but we can say that our experiments so far have proved the instrument to work satisfactorily and reliably, and in view of this we are quite prepared to buy an Elliott Ammeter for fitting to his chassis. If Sales will confirm this with the customer and instruct us, we in turn will order the Elliott instrument and arrange to have the dial finished similar to the rest of the instruments. To get the dial finished right, we shall instruct the Elliott people to obtain their dial from the Cambridge Instrument Company, and we will supply the Cambridge Instrument Company with a Weston dial as a sample of what we are after.
