93rd M / no. ( 4 ) CONE CLUTCH Cont. The Committee advised Mr. Nadin to return this cone after checking its size on a standard aluminium clutch, to the Scandinavian Belting Company for the joint to be corrected. 96th Meeting, Dec. 8th,1911. Re Mr. Johnson's note to Mr. Platford GJ19/D71211. concerning verious points in connection with our chassis. Mr. Johnson had remarked :- That our clutches are noisy. Mr. Platford informed the Committee that the clutches became noisy when the leathers were insufficiently lubricated. Further, that over lubrication rendered the clutch liable to slip. He suggested that a small quantity of oil should be fed to the clutch leather each time it is disengaged. The Committee agreed that Mr. Bailey should go into some scheme as described by Mr. Platford. Such a scheme they believed presented no serious difficulties, and should overcome the difficulty. 99th Meeting, Dec.14th,1911. Mr. Bailey submitted a clutch cone fitted with the material supplied by the Scandinavian Belting Company. He pointed out that the material was not of constant thickness, and would probably cause trouble. The Committee agreed that this should be fitted to a car and tested before being condemned. Mr. Platford enquired if anything had been done with a device for lubricating the standard clutch leather. [Handwritten in left margin]: x964 [Handwritten annotation next to 'clutches']: ch | ||
