x306 MARTINDALE ~~Sft{Mr Swift} from Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}~~ ~~C. Mr. Hdy.{William Hardy} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}~~ ~~Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Mr. Hives~~ Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}2/HP.13.3.36. Phantom III Cost Reductions -- Hand Brake Equaliser Sec.6090. N.Sch.4558. In reply to Sft{Mr Swift}/WWW.1/DR.31.1.36, we have been told by Messrs. Rover that oilite bushes are not satisfactory when exposed to water, and that their use has been abandoned in exposed positions owing to the difficulty experienced in excluding water. We have no knowledge of the means taken to exclude water in this case, but it would appear to be wise not to change over to oilite bushes for bearings on the back axle until we consider that we have a satisfactory scheme.
