20 HP. SHOCK DAMPERS.

Referring to Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}4/T.20.3.29. and C.11/C19.3.29.
for some time I have been trying to get information from Experimental Department on the position of knocking rear 20 HP. dampers, and from some experimental reports which I found it would appear that at least a temporary solution has been obtained by drilling the high pressure valve with a sixteenth hole.

Unfortunately I did not see this until Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} had gone to France, but it appears as if this was the remedy applied to Mr. Pilling's car. I did not know this before, but this being so I am of the opinion a standardisation sheet should be issued, and we should immediately instruct the Works to introduce the hole in question on production parts.

In regard to the figures quoted, I should doubt the accuracy of the charge £11.1.8d. It is likely this might be charged as cost of fitting new dampers, and it may have been overlooked that we have the old dampers, and this would almost balance except for a Works charge of £1. 10. 0. roughly for dismantling and examining old damper as well as fitting new.

Mr. Booth should immediately add a 1/16" hole to the valve. Mr. Mattinson will supply information as to valve and position.
