PERFORMANCE TESTS - EAC. 'V' SERIES.

GRAPH 1.

This represents the road wheel H.P. curves taken immediately before the tests. In addition a curve of the calculated H.P. required to drive the car (curve C.) is included. This curve is obtained directly from the tractive resistance curve shewn in Graph 1V. The point at which the curve 'C' cuts curves A.{Mr Adams} & B. give the maximum speeds which we should estimate that the car could attain. With the cut-out closed this is 71.4 m.p.h. Actually the best timed lap of the car under the same windage conditions was 72.5 m.p.h. Owing to the nature of the track, our windage tests had to be conducted on the two straights which are not quite equivalent to both-way readings since they are not parallel. It would therefore appear that our figures for the wind resistance of a 'V' series car are slightly too high. Alternatively the lap speed we recorded may have been somewhat flattering.

GRAPH 111.

Gives the accelerationof the car on various gears.

On comparing the top gear curve with that given previously for one Silver Ghost, it will be noticed that the apparent improvement obtained from the new engine us negligible. As a matter of fact this is not so, as the Phantom weighed some 7.3 cwts. more than the Silver Ghost. The dotted curve indicates the acceleration which should have been attained
