R.{Sir Henry Royce} and the Exp. Dept. have criticised our standard Klaxon, and efforts have been made to find a suitable horn of English manufacture. The Bosch, but for its country of origin, would have met with our approval. Messrs. Klaxon were asked to produce a horn like the Bosch, but in Jan. of this year they apparently had not succeeded, although they had submitted several samples. Since the electric horn is not an accessory, but part of the chassis equipment like the dynamo and switchbox, it might be thought possible for us to make at Derby either a copy of the Bosch horn or one of our own design. Another alternative would be to approach Messrs. J.A.Stevens Ltd. the English agents for Bosch specialities with a view to arranging for them to obtain the Bosch horn in an English made case, thus concealing the country of origin. They might have facilities for the complete manufacture or assembly of the horn in this country. The 3rd. course would be for WW. to approach Messrs. Klaxon again and examine the latest sample which they submitted last Jan. with a view to discovering how and where it failed to come up to the Bosch standard. With a view to getting something done, we would be glad if London could obtain for us on loan a sample of the best efforts of Messrs.Klaxon, and also a sample of the Bosch horn which Derby approve of.
