LINK HOLES WORN OVAL [Stamp on Blueprint] ROYCE LTD PRINT ROOM 18 FEB 1926 DERBY. These were removed after running for six hours on the bump because one shock absorber had stiffened up and shewed signs of lost movement. The other one was functioning perfectly satisfactory. Neither had developed chattering. We found the links broken as indicated on the stiff shock absorber. Both were set to 150 lbs. and 30 lbs., as run to eliminate wobbles. We find that 100 lbs. loading is sufficient to damp out quite a violent wobble. We are therefore stiffening up the links as far as allowable in the design - making them in nickel-steel - and running the shock absorbers again on the bump under the reduced load.
