This suggests that it might be possible to omit the epicyclic gear on the motor casing, but extensive tests we would have to be made at very low temperatures (below freezing) before one would feel justified in omitting the epicyclic gear, since the use of the present ratio of 23.3 to 1, with a motor having about double the H.P. of our own motor, would be an assurance that, even under the most severe weather conditions which will be met with when the cars become generally used in this country, there can be no doubt about the starter turning the engine over.

BOSCH CONSTRUCTION.

Constructionally, the Bosch Motor and Generator, both, give one the impression of being very cheap and hasty work. One feels that a great effort has been made to cut down the number of pieces and, consequently, chances have had to be taken on insulation, permanency of fixing, etc. The armature of both motor and generator seem good pieces of work.

Attach to Mr. Clark's copy of the memo are power curves of the Bijur, Westinghouse and Bosch Motors and the Bosch Generator, which we expect he will wish to check with his own test charts.

BOSCH GENERATOR.

The Bosch Generator requires little comment. It is smaller and lighter than the Lucas, adapted for constant current with third brush regulation. Its output characteristics are similar to the Lucas, cutting in at 480 R.P.M. and reaching a maximum of 13 amps, at 1300 R.P.M. results which, if actually
