C. J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} - 2 - Na{Mr Nadin}2/B2.9.21 Our Inspector, who is always present during the heat-treating of the Springs, makes a heat-treating, fracture and Brinell test on each heat of steel before it is placed in use. He also inspects the Brinell test which is made on every plate, after the first quench. If the figure is less than 500, the plates are rejected. He selects 1 plate in 50 as the springs come through the tempering furnace and a fracture and Brinell test are made on the plates selected. We had a certain amount of opposition at first, probably because our inspection was regarded as interference, but the Spring-makers soon realized that we were right and are now anxious to co-operate with us.
