- 2 - The results of the race were as follows:- Driver. Car. Average Speed. E.R. HALL 4 1/4 Bentley 80.81 N.S. EMBIRICOS 3.3 Bugatti Retired second lap. The fastest lap ever recorded by a Bugatti in the T.T. was 82.51 M.P.H. The fastest lap ever recorded by the Rolls-Bentley was 83.77 M.P.H. Therefore Mr. Hampton does not remember rightly when he says that the bugatti was faster than the Bentley over the Ards circuit and, since he can be proved to be wrong in this particular where figures can be quoted, has no right to be believed when he says that the Bugatti maximum was certainly greater than that of the Bentley. It seems probable from the fastest lap speeds, that the reverse was the case. To his statement "How much faster then would the latest type Bugatti be", I would reply that, judging by the progress made from 1935 to 1936 in the T.T., the 1939 Bugatti would still be no match for the 1939 version of Hall's Bentley which, as far as I am concerned, remains the finest sports car of the present day. I admit I am pro any British product, but in this case I do not have to do more than make a fair comparison based on facts. | ||
