Tests have been carried out on the special oil submitted to us by Messrs. Prices' containing Stockholm Tar and Lead Oleate. The tests were conducted on the gearbox which we find gives excellent indication of the qualities of an oil necessary for a hypoid axle without entailing scrapping of the parts. This oil did not shew up sufficiently well to justify us continuing the tests on the axle. We have at present under test, a different type of oil for the same purpose called Oline, from the Refining Co., South Road, Hansworth, BIRMINGHAM. We appreciate the desirability of finding an alternative to Whitmore's Compound, but so far have come across no suitable substitute.
