1155? Continental Diamond Fibre Company Newark, Delaware F.J. HARDY July 17, 1937 Rolls-Royce, Ltd. Derby, England. Ref. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}1/AP. Attention Mr. F.{Mr Friese} J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} Hardy. Gentlemen: In reply to yours of June 19th, I wish to advise that we have no standard moulded gear blank which would be sufficiently close in design to the gears represented in your blue-prints to permit comparative tests. We are of the opinion that this gear should not show very much more than .005" wear after operating for 20,000 miles. We feel that .010" wear would be representative of rather poor material, consequently it seems probable that your report of .020" for 20,000 miles would represent a design problem rather than a material problem. Moulded Celoron gear blanks are not made in England. We do make them in our French factory: La{L. A. Archer} Fibre Diamond, 72 Rue du Landy, La{L. A. Archer} Plaine St.{Capt. P. R. Strong} Denis (Seine) France. We might offer to supply you with sheet stock from which you could cut such a gear for further test, but I question the value of the results that you would obtain in solving your problem. Yours very truly, CONTINENTAL-DIAMOND FIBRE COMPANY [Signature of G.E. Landt] TECHNICAL DIRECTOR G.E.Landt/AMB. Newark C2A 2 1/2-1° | ||
