Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} C. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} X4612. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}1/AD4.1.32. We were going into the question of the cost of the cast iron ribbed drum because we think that this should be very little, if any more expensive than the P.2. pressed drum, being more easy to machine. The figures the Cost Dept. have given us are attached herewith. We cannot say that they are very satisfactory because they allow no cost for the heat treatment of the .6 carbon steel and apparently the machining of the drum for the hub on the pressed steel drum only costs about 9d which is hardly believable. The figure which does stand out, however, is the cost of the end plate on the new design of drum. We think that this figure will interest you as possibly you will be able to design it so that it can be made out of a single stamping.
