AMERICAN ENGINES.
CYLINDERS & CONNECTING RODS.

In regard to the American Cylinders, none of these are being used until we have welded same on the vertical seams. So far as we can judge at the moment, in order to be quite sure of the workmanship, it will be necessary to reweld every cylinder through.

In regard to Connecting Rods, none of these are coming through, as we have not fixed the policy up with reference to what is best to be done in regard to these rods. We are running a set of same on Mr Hives engines, which shew want of adherence between the white metal of the rod. These up to the present have shewed no signs of cracking after 35 hours running - the bearing surface is in good condition.
