To Sg. {Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} from Rg. {Mr Rowledge} c. to Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} I am in receipt of your Sg {Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} 9/E.15.4.29 enclosing copy of letter from Oy., referring to the use of ethylene-glycol mixture in the cooling system for aero engines. A few years ago we experimented with tri-methylene-glycol. I think we used about 10%, the rest water. We found that it raised the boiling point and lowered the freezing point, and stopped corrosion. We put the matter before the Air Ministry and they agreed with our figures and then allowed the matter to drop. It may be that ethylene-glycol possesses some advantages over the stuff we were using. I do not remember the cost of the tri-methylene-glycol, but I was informed that it was a waste product and easily obtainable. Perhaps Oy. could send us over a small supply. Rg. {Mr Rowledge} | ||
