To Ey. From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey} c. to Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} Sft.{Mr Swift} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey}8/KT.10.3.31. X.1583. X.2066. ALTERNATIVE OIL FOR HYPOID REAR AXLES. We have recently tested three P.II rear axles on the Dynamometer using Wakefield's Hypoid Axle Compound instead of Whitmores oil. The good results obtained on these three axles rather indicate that we can safely proceed further with this oil. We propose therefore to use it for all dynamometer tests on P.II chassis. At the present there are so few chassis going through this test that it is not a difficult matter to keep a check on such an experiment. It is not intended that the axles shall be despatched with this oil until we have had more experience with it. It should therefore be removed and replaced with Whitmore's Compound after the Dynamometer Test. Will Sft.{Mr Swift} please instruct Mr. Pritchard to use this oil on all future P.II axles; he should make a note of all axles so filled and label them prominently; Mr. Archer will supply the necessary oil. Will the Dynamometer Testers please take special notice of these axles and immediately report any unusual occurrence. A doubtful axle should be sent to the Experimental Dept. for immediate examination as one failure will necessitate the discontinuance of these tests. Will Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} please advise us periodically as to the numbers of axles (with this oil) passed through the Dynamometer Test. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Lid.{A.
