Re. ALUMINIUM PISTONS.

In reply to your memo EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}4/T/L301215, I shall be glad to know why these pistons were sent you, and understand that they are only here for experimental purposes and for you to test and report on.

I note that 12 castings were received from the White City, 6 of these were the R.R.standard piston, and appear to be satisfactory, and are being machined.

The other 6 pistons were of the Zephyr type and were condemned.

I shall be glad to know why these were condemned and also if you can tell me why 6 were of the Zephyr type and 6 of the standard type.

What is the standard type? I thought the standard type was Zephyr.
