X.4217. RE CARS RECEIVED FROM AMERICA.

We had hoped to send the Marmon Car to Mr. Royce this week but unfortunately while running at 2500 R.P.M. on the Dynamometer, a piston seized and we are getting this put right first.

We have up-to-date, received from America, the Marmon, Buick, Essex, and Dodge Cars. The Essex and the Dodge are both 4-cylinder and we do not propose to send these to Mr. Royce unless he requests it, as we do not think there is anything about them which can possibly interest him from a running point of view. The Essex has a very sweet and silent clutch and gear changing, and we are taking it down for examination.

X.4213. The Dodge is a particularly bad car in every respect; the only interesting feature being the combined dynamo and motor starter which we propose examining.

X.3317. We do not consider the Buick is as good a running car as the one Mr. Royce has at the present time at W.W. but the engine is of a very clean design and has overhead rockers operated by push rods, and we propose to send this to W.W. at once, if Mr Royce will consent to receiving it with red number plates.
