Phantom Oil Level Indicator.

Regarding the rejection of the standardisation sheet No.165 for the simplified oil level indicator on the grounds of £30. press tool cost, we would point out that this scheme was the outcome of a works suggestion and sent out by Air Mail especially to be fitted to 35-EX in order to do the 15,000 miles so that it could be put on production.

Your alternative scheme in accordance with RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/SB.{Mr Bull/Mr Bannister}2/FH.9.9.37. requires some modification as it does not give the correct effective float weight, also three rivets in line on cork could not be considered an acceptable job without trial.

This has been taken up by the design and a scheme to E.C.D.76 has been evolved which further cheapens the mechanism by making the float arm a one piece strip job.

The design observations are made in their memo. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}7/G.15.9.37.

The new scheme will require a further 15,000 miles test and will be fitted on 39-EX.
