S.S. EXPERIMENTAL CHASSIS FOR U.S.A.

X7770

The procedure we should recommend as regards sending S.S. cars to the U.S.A. would be as follows :-

A car should be approved in England by OY. and if possible Mr. Fuller or some other representative from R-R Inc. Any points on the car which RR. Inc. did not approve could then be discussed with R.{Sir Henry Royce} before the car was sent to U.S.A. We feel certain that there will be a number of points on the S.S. car which Springfield will expect to be modified.

We should recommend we send only one car to U.S.A. at first. If any complaints then arise on this car when it is tested under their conditions, we could try and reproduce the fault on the cars left in England and demonstrate it to R.{Sir Henry Royce} If it was agreed that modifications were necessary then a second car could follow embodying the modifications. At no time however should we wish to have more than two of the cars in U.S.A. We should always have to keep one model at Derby.

As regards the wheels. We do not think these are essential to prove whether the car will satisfy all the U.S.A. conditions. At the same time however we consider it would be a good thing to send them the necessary drawings so that they could be considering the question of wheels.
