If you are fitting stronger springs, which I understand is the case, the unit loading on the seat will remain substantially the same and the thermal contact should not suffer. Therefore, with the wider seat, you may be able to dissipate more heat. While you are developing the Stellite process, it might be worth while trying out a couple of valves to the general design mentioned above with N.C.M. or KE 965 seat inserts and give them a good hard test at about 190 or 200 lbs. B.M.E.P. with a fuel having 4 c.c.'s of lead per gallon. This should give you some idea as to whether an improvement can be obtained. All the best, Yours sincerely, F R Banks FRB/WNT | ||
