X8420 Copy to Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Mx. {John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} Front Brakes. "Phantom" We experience quite a lot of trouble on test with rattle of front brake shoes. While this does not appear to be apparent on the road, we feel that it is possible that with a really ~~good~~ [handwritten: quiet] car, under certain conditions, for it to be noticeable, in fact, we have had one or two complaints of this feature. I have satisfied myself now that the various parts are to drawing, although I must admit that this has not always been the case in the past. I understand from EP {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} that this feature exists on certain Experimental Cars, and has been demonstrated by him to Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} , who points out that with the new type axle this feature will be satisfactorily overcome, in the same way as it is dealt with on the present 20-HP. I bring this matter forward for your consideration, so that you can give a decision as to whether anything further should be done, in view of the possibility of more complaints arising.
