X4545 To PN. {Mr Northey} from BJ. Copies to: PN. {Mr Northey} AN. EV. {Ivan Evernden - coachwork} Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} MP. BJ11/H26.3.23. Re 40-G-5. The 20 h.p. open touring trials car which I tried this week-end seemed to run quite nicely provided the temperature was about 90°. If the temperature was allowed to drop much it became a very different car. There was an incessant creaking which appeared to come from the dashboard when the roads were at all rough. There was a bad spring squeak which appeared to be from the front off-side when the car had run about 20 miles. A humming, apparently from the back axle, was very excessive with the hood up, and also a noise from the exhaust, which sounded as though a car were continually pursuing one. With the hood down, the increased noise was perceptible. I was convinced that discs on the wheels make the car more noisy Mr. Nutt recently complained that on their demonstrating 20 h.p., the gear lever jumped from top into neutral four times in fifty miles. Yesterday on 40-G-5, our demonstrating 20 h.p. open touring car, when I was driving, the gear jumped from top into neutral twice in ten miles. I am inclined to think a road with pot-holes may have something to do with it, although later I drove ten miles over much worse roads and the lever remained in top. B.J. | ||
