ROAD WHEELS: RUDGE WHITWORTH AND DUNLOP.

With reference to ROY {Sir Henry Royce} 7/MG9.4.24:-

40/50 H.P. wheels. We agree to ordering 200 sets of Dunlop.

20 H.P. wheels. Does By. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} consider we should keep to Dunlop wheels permanently, even though the Rudge-Whitworth are satisfactory in test and are considerably cheaper?

I think we should ascertain what is the difference between the Rudge-Whitworth and Dunlop price before we come to any definite conclusion in regard to replacing Dunlop by Rudge-Whitworth. I think Col. Matthew should give us the benefit of the reduced price on any Dunlop wheels we order from him in future if he wishes to retain our custom.

We agree that we should order at least 100 sets of Dunlop wheels at once, and not order any Rudge-Whitworth until we are quite confident

(a) that they can supply the quantities we require at the time we require them, and

(b) that the price is right.

Under the above circumstances, I do not think it is necessary for this matter to be further discussed at Derby on Monday, unless By. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} thinks we might talk over his reasons for preferring Dunlop wheels on the 20 h.p.
