E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} } FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} } x7230. R4/14.10.32. C. to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} WDR. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} P.2 EXHAUST VALVES. On looking at the drawing of the arrangement we have tested, with a fresh eye, one feels as though we ought not to be surprised that the guide became overheated, and that it might give satisfaction if only cut off shorter, without any drastic changes to the head casting. We think it would be quite worth while trying if salt cooling of these exhaust valves did this engine any good. It might not only cure the valve, but improve detonations, and so justify the expense of the salt cooling. At least one would expect it to give more life to the valve. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
