M/W Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} C. to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey} 84013. RV2/L12.4.32. Chassis 63-EF - Mr. Lawton. Barcelona. Thanks for your memo Hd{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}/SB{Mr Bull/Mr Bannister}9/MW5.4.32. In regard to the two sliding joint exhaust manifolds sent out from Works for the above chassis, I am afraid you will have to wait a few more days until I can get in touch with our Barcelona agent who has had the matter in hand. You are aware of the considerable time it took for these parts to arrive in Madrid. In receipt of these here they were sent at once to Barcelona with full instructions regarding the fitting. Some days later, our mechanic in Barcelona reported that he could not fit these exhaust manifolds because the faces of the down pipes and the faces of the manifolds were not in line and could not be bolted up. I sent him further instructions telling him to remove the downtake pipes as these had probably gone out of shape or position on account of the heat whilst the car had been in service, also to remove the asbestos and bring them back to the normal position and afterwards to fit again asbestos and the aluminium covers before assembling. The front downtake pipe was fitted after this operation, but the rear downtake pipe was in such a burnt and deformed condition that before it could be brought back to its normal position it broke in pieces. We were then obliged to supply him with a new rear downtake pipe No. E72869/70G which I presume has now been fitted. We have already written our Barcelona agent on this matter and as soon as I hear further from him I will advise you. RV. RReeves LID{A. J. Lidsey} P I Exhaust Complaints.
