Cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} Minute No. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} -2- (1) Agreed that the bore shall be 3.4". (2) Decided that the gear box shall be a separate unit from the engine. (3) Decided that the gear box shall have Synchro-mesh on second speed in addition to third and fourth. Hdy.{William Hardy} said the design for this new gear box can be completed by the end of August. Design Dept. will see if this date can be anticipated (to be reviewed at next Conference). (4) Brake gear to be made on Bentley lines so as to allow of lower floor. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} said our brake gear is not up to date as easier adjustment by hand is necessary. The adjustment should be applied to each separate brake in addition to a convenient common adjustment for all four brakes. This system should be tried out on Bentley first as the brake adjustment is particularly awkward at present. (5) Dynamo speed. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} said the dynamo speed should be reduced as on Bentley & Peregrine to allow of higher engine revs. without overspeeding dynamo. (6) Dual Ignition. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} will study this question as to whether dual ignition or single ignition with a standby or spare set be recommended. (7) Radiator. Decided that the radiator has central mounting. (8) Oil Cooler. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} said an oil cooler seems necessary as the J.III. now running about overheats its oil under all conditions of running. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} will look into this and take up with Exp. Dept. (9) Clutch needs bringing up to date. Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} has a design almost ready but can only be adopted if separate gear box is used. (10) Air Silencer required. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} said he is waiting for final report from Exp. Dept. (11) Exhaust System needs revision.. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} said he wishes to use rubber mounting. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} will investigate. (12) Cutout not required. | ||
