RE FAILURE OF P & R CELLS IN SSx BATTERY (15g%) No.4. cell has failed in the above battery after only running 13,787 miles in 2 years 7 months, and 6 months on our bench life test. The cause of failure was due to the positive plates stretching which allowed sediment to collect on top of the separators and causing a short. The negative plates and all separators were good. The positive plates had lost practically no paste, but the plate grids were very weak and frail. The sediment had only reached a depth of 1/8". EFC {E.
