400b. To A.J. Gardiner, Hotel de France, Chateauroux, Indre, FRANCE. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/IMW.{Ivan M. Waller - Head of Chateauroux}5/JH.25.1.39. 8.B.V. Bentley. Thank you for your memo. and reports dated 22nd. and 23rd. We are very interested in the tyre wall failure, as we believe this to be a 4 ply tyre. Will you please return the damaged cover for inspection and let us know particulars of all excessive impacts which it may have received during your running. In view of this failure, the deliberate misuse of the Avons becomes less important and if this has not already done it can be postponed until further notice. We enclose print of GCD.604 showing the arrangement of the hand brake return spring as intended for production, also GW.1990 the detail of the spring. Please find out what is wrong and let us know. Regarding the prop. shaft vibration which you report, please make certain that the rear floor is not deflecting and touching the cruciform member. Thank you for the oil sample. The cartridge which was in use was an English produced one, fitted on 23.12.38. We take it that you have fitted the spare cartridge which was in the Chateauroux Office. This is American made, and we should like a sample taken after this has covered the same mileage as the English cartridge namely 6279 miles. Do you feel the effects of the servo judders on the brake pedal? They are most likely to be due to water on the linings. Please let us know if the heldite on the joint between the servo drum and the spring is still intact. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/IMW.{Ivan M. Waller - Head of Chateauroux} | ||
