EFC. from R.{Sir Henry Royce} X2048. R2/M17.9.29. X2048 You have two dynamos for the 20 HP. and 45HP. cars that could be used as motors, if shunt wound. I am proposing to adopt 50 V.{VIENNA} instead of present 24. I want two or three motors of about 1/2HP., but those I can buy are very large in size, or very rough and inefficient. Would the maximum flux of either of our dynamos (magnets at about 16000 lines per sq. c/m.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore}) and standard armature windings give the required back E.M.F. with shunt winding to make an efficient motor for 50 volts at about 1500 RPM? Naturally they would have ample overload capacity if the efficiency was good at 1/2HP. There would be no third brush needed, and the shunt winding would be all that would be special. I should mount them to swing so as to keep the belt tight like our Silver Ghost dynamos, so the round carcase would not need feet. The belt pulley would be 3" to 4" dia. If the dynamos are suitable could they be made up without delaying other work, and could two be finished in three weeks? R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
