HOOD,

24.2.39.

To. RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/I.H.W.

We confirm our telephone conversation of this afternoon.

Owing to the failure of the dynamo we dismantled it & to clean the commutator & fit a new top brush which had broken in halves.

We found that at least half the wires in the segments had come loose the solder having fallen out.

The commutator was badly burned at two portions diametrically opposite to each other, the mica was also burnt about 1/32" low in three or four places.

We fitted the dynamo in place again after having soldered the wires, cleaned the commutator, & undercut the mica carefully, but otherwise there was no sign of life. We found later that about 3/4 of the segments were short circuited together in the portions not burnt.

We have since received your telegram

I will make every endeavour to obtain this quickly
