PHANTOM II RADIATOR FILLER CAP.

The method of sealing the Phantom II radiator cap with a soft rubber ring is not giving very satisfactory results. The material used is wrong, the rubber is too soft and becomes firmly wedged between the cap and the filler and it is sometimes very difficult to remove the cap. Again, the ring is not sufficiently located in the radiator cap; the undercut is not deep enough to keep it in position so that it sometimes sticks to the radiator top filler and sometimes drops into the radiator. The rubber has not got a very long life.

We have tried Dermatine with quite successful results, the material is harder than rubber and being 'lubricated' allows the cap to be tightened up against it without clinging to it and ruckling it up. It also appears to keep its original form very much longer than soft rubber which swells and loses its nature after some use.

To make a successful job we recommend that the cap be modified by increasing the depth of the undercut by .100" diam., and that an altogether wider washer in Dermatine be used as shown on the attached sketch.

These modifications should take place as early as possible.
