47 Hôtel de France, Châteauroux, Indre. January 1st. 1929 TO: Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Derby Re 20-HP Car 14-G4 We sent you a telegram reporting the breaking of the front wing stays. The four stays have broken across the bottom lugs. This has not been caused by excessive speeds or bad roads. The head lamps we are of the opinion are too heavy to be carried by the wings. We cannot at the moment get these stays repaired, as all work is suspended at the Repair Garage for the New Year. We shall as soon as possible stop the car temporarily and have the stays welded. We do not think it will be necessary to send any new stays out as we have tackled this job before and know exactly how to deal with it. It is evident however that the stays are not now sufficiently strong to stand the continual vibrations. We have been able as on the S.S. car to bring up the dynamo charge and can maintain our lights for the night's running. Mr. Evans has left, and Commander Briggs arrived this afternoon. So far he has not been on the car. G.W.H. | ||
