"SS{S. Smith}" REAR SHOCK DAMPER. X7520 V235

Herewith we send N. schs. 2651/2, shewing alternative arrangements of the rear shock damper on "SS{S. Smith}".
Mr. Royce would like Derby to choose the one they prefer.
N. sch. 2651. is arranged like the shock damper on EAC. 7.

N. sch. 2652. is arranged on the plan which has been adopted in America on the standard Phantom.

There is no difficulty in either case in making the shock damper, and the choice seems to turn on accessibility, ground clearance, and convenience for the bodywork. It will be seen that on N. sch. 2652. it is necessary to modify the battery suspension.

The shock damper has been modified as compared with standard, so as to make both valves accessible from the outside, and a turbulence restriction has been introduced which is common to both sides. This is intended to be interchangeable as far as the main parts are concerned with that on the front damper, which would Derby please modify to correspond.

It will be noticed that a vent is provided on each side, and this will also be required on the front damper, in which case the two plugs can be alike. The presence of the air vent enables the plug boss to be shortened, and this should be done on the front damper.
