Engine leakage tests, noting variations with speed and outlining a new method for taking temperature readings.

It will be seen that the leakage falls as the speed increases. Other variations we have noted is with a cold engine when at 500 r.p.m. the leakage was nearly one cu.inch per stroke.

This preliminary test was taken more of a test of the apparatus than test of the engine and there are still one or two variations we have observed which need explanation before we take accurate comparative work on the engine.

So far however the apparatus has worked satisfactory and we intend making tests of the fit of rings, pistons etc.

We are hoping to arrange a system whereby we can take readings immediately after the particular cylinder has been working and all the parts would be much nearer the actual working temperature than when taken by the present method.
