E.1/HP.16.1.36.

re wiring of Headlights.

Further to E.C/HP.20.12.35 and BY.1/G.3.1.36, it has been agreed, and action is now being taken to fit up "G" series Bentleys with Phantom III type distribution boards having two headlamp fuses.

With reference to a certain number of chassis which are in these works from the previous series, and to demonstration cars and cars in service, we recommend that convenient retrospective action should be taken on the lines of scheme No.2. in memo E.C/HP.20.12.35 or of scheme No.3. and that Instruction books should be supplied with an amendment leaflet showing the double fusing.

By convenient retrospective action we mean that Bentley cars should be altered as they come in and that no new chassis at present in the Works should be delivered without this alteration.

The recommendation is limited to the Bentley because from the evidence available we still believe that the extra vibration on this chassis compared with our others causes the headlamps in some way to short.

A bump chassis will shortly be running with two of these lamps in position and alight, with the object of reproducing the failure. In the meantime it is somewhat difficult to decide which of the schemes Nos.2 or 3 is the most convenient to carry out, and we are referring the matter to Md, who in the event of your agreement to the action recommended would have to carry out the work.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
