To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from EFC. c. to GJ. c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to De/Thr. X.4383 EFC1/16.7.21. X.4383 - "GOSHAWK II" DYNAMO. We send you herewith calculations in connection with the above dynamo, which have been got out by us in collaboration with Mr. Thacker, to suit the dimensions as given in L.c.1405. The drawings are being proceeded with. The calculations have been made very much as if the dynamo were a simple shunt wound machine, except that the necessary allowance, as found from investigations on the Rotax AT.12 and U.S.A. Bosch dynamos, has been made for the difference in the cutting in speed. It will be noticed that we have taken a polar flux density figure which appears relatively rather low, but this seemed necessary to suit the number of armature conductors already fixed. Also it has made the ampere turns necessary appear relatively low and enabled the field winding to be got in the relatively small space, due to the use of a large armature, quite comfortably. On the whole we think that the quantities we have got out represent very fairly what you have intended for this machine. EFC. | ||
