Copy of letter from:- JOSEPH LUCAS LTD., Great King Street, Birmingham. Ref.- OL/FEA. 30th April, 1927. Messrs.Rolls-Royce Ltd., Derby. Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr.Whitehead. In reply to your favour of the 26th inst. calling for 3 pairs of our special contact breaker points, we shall, of course, be most happy to assist you in every possible way in this matter, but we should like to point out that the problem is not quite so simple that the mere fitting of these contact points to any ignition apparatus is a cure-all for contact trouble. The reports of excellent performance of our contact points in conjunction with our magneto to which you kindly refer are due to a careful correlation between the contact material and the electrical design of the machine as a whole. If, however, you are prepared to send us 3 of your Coil Distributors and Ignition Coils, we should be only too happy to consider the problem as a whole, and advise you in due course if we could recommend our special contacts as being suitable for your work. You will appreciate, we are sure, that this course will best serve our mutual interests if you have no objections to the suggested procedure. Yours faithfully, JOSEPH LUCAS LIMITED.
