x206 MARTINDALE BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c.c. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} RMC. EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}2/HP.5.8.36. Bentley Front Brakes. Herewith are two N.Schemes in connection with eliminating brake judders. N.Sch.4860 is the scheme intended for final adoption, but as many new parts are involved, it is not applicable to existing axles. N.Sch.4865 is the inertia balance lever type which is intended for fitting to existing cars. Both these schemes have been detailed and issued and are now in process of being made for experiments, so that we send them to you as a matter of routine only. We may point out that as regards N.Sch.4865, when the brakes are not applied, downward movement of the balance weight tends to free the adjustment lock overcoming the pull off springs in the brake shoes as it does so. This feature has been pointed out to Experimental Department for their observation, but so far no adverse results have been noticed. N.Sch's 4860 and 4865 herewith.
