Messrs. Wellworthy Ltd.,
Lymington,
HANTS.

Dear Sirs,

In reply to your letter dated 3rd. August referring to a big end bearing failure by Dennis Bros.

The delay in dealing with this matter is due to our annual holiday.

We have completed our examination of the bearing however, and would make the following observations.

(a) It would appear that the bearing has been moving on its backing.

(b) A certain amount of foreign matter or dirt has been pounded into the material, causing the surface metal to be skimmed up to form a ridge. We cannot think of any other cause for the effect, because Dennis' say that the lubrication is the same as that which has been found satisfactory under other similar conditions.

Yours faithfully,
for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
