R.R. 409A (40 H) (8L 42 12-7-23). J.H., D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} EXPERIMENTAL REPORT. Expl. No. 4272 REF: Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG16.8.23. 20 HP. HEAT UNDER SCUTTLE. You will remember 4-Goshawk-11 car was noticeably worse with regard to heat under the scuttle the last time it was at W.W. At first this was thought to be in some way caused by the arrangement of exhaust heated throttle. We have proved, however, by going into it, that the chief difference was due to the hot air coming through the slot for the cut-out pedal and poorly fitting floorboards. 4-Goshawk-11 has no scuttle ventilation so that there is a considerable depression under the scuttle with the car moving. We consider we ought to improve the method of operating the cut-out to avoid having to cut a slot in the floorboards. We suggest that we should have felt washers around the pedals to fill up the slots also we ought to make a better joint between the change gear and brake levers and the floorboards. There ought to be a ferrule let into the floor-boards to take the speedometer drive to avoid the coachbuilders cutting an over-size hole. We find that we can reduce the length of the undershield on the 20 HP. by 10" and for it still to be effective, and by lagging the exhaust down pipe with asbestos, we further reduce the heat under the scuttle. A standardisation sheet is being sent round for these two modifications. | ||
