ORIGINAL EFC3/T18.5.27. To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from EFC. c. BJ. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} SEQUENCE STARTER MOTOR NO.2. SCHEME. Your ref. R/M16.5.27. In the first instance we are arranging for firstly the alteration in the spring, secondly the alteration to the out-of-centre of the armature in relation to the poles, and thirdly the provision of the taper bore. We consider it very doubtful if the provision of the taper bore to the extent of reducing the torque to one half will increase the end pull to double. This probably refers to the torque in the outermost position and the pull in the innermost position. The advantage of the taper bore appears to us to be that together with the .125" out-of-centre, it levels up the longitudinal magnetic pull curve (on the motion base) to a better correspondence with the controlling curve of the spring, i.e. it would not appear to matter seriously if the magnetic longitudinal pull in the outermost position were somewhat reduced, the difficulty in the first instance not having been the starting of the motion, but in the obtaining of the necessary force to complete the inward motion. In regard to the suggestion of the rearrangement of the teazer winding, it will be noted that when the main supply comes on, the whole teazer winding will be in series on that supply with a differential magnetising action, and main current will be used which is not serving any useful purpose, unless duplicate teazer terminals, wires and contacts on teazer circuit switch, be provided. We will put in hand special coils in which the main winding is on two poles only and the teazer winding on the other two. EFC. | ||
