PRIVATE. Y180 Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} - from Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}3/W1/9/25. Re Running of Experimental Cars. ---------------------------- In answer to your memo Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/LG22/7/25:- (1) I am sure that it is right at all times that you and Rg.{Mr Rowledge} should run experimental cars at any time you consider necessary. This is most beneficial to the Company, and in no way do I want to be consulted. (2) It is essential in the Company's interest that EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} and Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} are given opportunities to use experimental cars, either for special journeys for the Company, or to loan them a car when there is one available. The Administration feel that these officials should have my written consent for this, which of course I shall be glad to give freely, whenever you can spare cars. If I am at any time not available I leave this matter entirely to you. (3) I am sure it is adventageous, whenever you deem it desirable, to let your assistants run a car for a week-end. It is profitable to the Company, and there is no reason to stop this privilege. If in running these cars they give a certain amount of pleasure to their friends, it is still profitable to the Company, and I think it good to get mileage on these experimental cars, especially when you consider that your assistants are glad to do this work without charging the Company for so doing. (4) The Administration points out that care must be taken, if there are any modifications on any of these chassis, which have not yet been made standard, that they shall not be seen by anyone, except our own officials. (5) If any other official of the Company, other than mentioned above, at any time asks for permission to have experimental cars, they should in every case be referred to me. If this memo does not make it once and for all quite clear, will you kindly point out to me, because I do not want to make the position indefinite or irksome to any individual. I should naturally want to be guided generally | ||
