X.3040 RE UPTON LEWIS TEST MACHINE DIAGRAMS

Please receive herewith original diagrams taken on the above machines for carious aluminium alloys. There are three diagrams for each metal recorded on the list herewith, and we require tracings made to give all these three diagrams on the same sheet, that is to say, one sheet for each metal, each sheet of which will contain three diagrams and the particulars, similar to specimen copies herewith.

We would like the particulars of each alloy according to the following list marked on each tracing:-

No. Designation. Alloy.
(1) P1 Present standard piston alloy containing 87% of aluminium, 12% of copper and less than .2% of zinc.
(2) B2 An alloy with considerably less copper than the above, namely, containing 91% of aluminium 8% of copper, and less than .2% of zinc.
(3) C Standard crankcase alloy, containing 2% of copper, 12% of zinc, and the rest aluminium.
(4) M1 Magnalium Metal.
(5) L. Levitt metal containing 96.4% of aluminium 2.2% of copper, .5% of zinc and 1/2% manganese.
(6) H The metal suggested by Mr. Hall containing approximately 94.5% of aluminium, 2.5% to 3.2% of copper 1. to 1.5% of zinc, .8 to 1.5% of antimony, and 1.0 to 1.5% nickel.
(7) A Aluminium copper antimony alloy containing 10% of copper and 1.2 to 1.7% of antimony, the rest aluminium.
(8) M2 Miralite Metal which consists of about 88% Contd.
