Its action is automatic. When the transmission reaches a pre-determined road speed, say 50 M.P.H. the engagement takes place automatically by a dog flying out and operating a Maybach type of clutch giving an overspeed of say 1.3. It was fitted to the Airflow Chrysler that I tried. I'm afraid that I cannot work up a great deal of enthusiasm for the device at present. Future Developments Chryslers are making a determined effort to simplify their transmission. At present they have. 1. Freewheel 2. Synchro Mesh 3. Vacuum Control 4. Over speed epicyclic. I was shewn confidentially a drawing of a fluid flywheel with an epicyclic box of three speeds with a swash plate pump to operate the shift. The whole box has been vastly simplified from the Wilson and weighs 50lbs less than their present clutch gearbox etc. They have made several experimentally. Dont circulate! | ||
